The town and market church of St. Peter dominates the market square. This is not in the center of the city, but on the north-eastern edge. This has to do with the town's development. Geseke emerged from the monastery and the community. The border ran "In der Halle". This is why two large old churches stand so close together.

The town church is one of the original parishes of the eastern Hellweg. It is the baptismal and mother church of Geseke and is mentioned in archival records from early on. The building initially makes a Gothic impression, but is Romanesque at its core. The history of the building is quite complicated. The present form - apart from the two western chapel-like extensions - dates from the 12th - 16th centuries. Excavations uncovered a pre-Romanesque apsidal hall and Romanesque substance from the 12th century. The late Romanesque part dates from the 13th century, the Gothic part from the 14th/15th century. The church was originally a cruciform pillar basilica. The crossing still contains building fabric from the 10th century. The mighty Gothic choir was built between 1400 and 1471. The side aisles were raised and widened in the 14th century. The church is now a stepped hall. Between 1522 and 1528, the cross gables above the side aisles were raised. The windows were gothicized. The current tower dates from the 13th century. The old tower stood to the east. After its demolition, the nave had three bays. To the south of the choir is the attached St. Bartholomew's Chapel. Beautiful "Totenlucht" on the northern aisle. Old portals. Large tower hall typical of the Hellweg. The current spire was built between 1866 and 1867. Beautiful baroque Madonna in a niche on the west wall of the tower.

The furnishings are worth mentioning: Choir stalls from 1520. carved antependium from 1549 with the Geseke coat of arms and that of the von Hagen family, also a donor figure. Magnificent pulpit from 1740. Baptismal font with Low German inscription from 1546. Baroque lid with "Baptism of Christ" by the Geseke sculptor Stratmann. Other sculptures by the same artist in the church. Double Madonna (Immaculata), late 17th century. Late Gothic sacrament niche. Altar of the cross from 1736. Beautiful late Baroque confessionals from the Grafschaft monastery.

The greatest "treasure" is the ostensorium from the 2nd half of the 12th century (the oldest in Westfalen).
