Until 1952, the people of Borntosten always had to go to the parish church in Heddinghausen. This was an arduous journey in wind and weather, which is why the people felt the need to build a place of worship. Against the will of Paderborn, the pastor and neighbors, a 22-member chapel building association was founded and work began on building the church. It was agreed that the church should stand at the beginning of the village. After many difficulties, great personal commitment from the villagers and many donations from residents and supporters from the surrounding area, the church was built from March to November (Elisabeth's name day). Now that the church was standing, the pastor and Paderborn could no longer maintain their defensive stance. However, according to Paderborn, the unruly Borntosten residents had to pay for the upkeep themselves. Initially, DM 5 per month was to be collected from each believer, but later an agreement was reached on DM 5 per household per month. This money is still collected today to maintain the church.
