The small hall church was built by the Counts of Arnsberg in the 13th century, of which the choir and the east bay are still preserved. In the mid-17th century, the choir was given a Baroque makeover, and the sacristy, which is still preserved today, was also built at this time. The keystone of the major restoration in the 17th century was the baroque south portal with pillar surround, oval window, garland roofing and chronogram from 1708.
In the mid-1950s, the previous church had become too small and was extended according to plans by the architect and master church builder Heinrich Stiegemann. The plans were based on the architecture and proportions of the previous medieval church: A baptistery was added to the west side of the baroque choir room. Bright ribbon windows structure the walls, designed by Vinzenz Piper. At the center of the baptistery is a baptismal font from the Baroque period. Integrated into the new building is a pilaster portal with a blasted gable. The interior of the church was renovated in 1979 and 2016/17. In 1991, the church was given a white exterior coat of plaster. A new altar made of Carrara marble was inaugurated in the church in 2017.
Particularly noteworthy:
- The high altar from the mid-18th century has a shape that is very rare for Westfalen
- The Hubertus altar originally stood in the chapel of the former Hirschberg castle (which was demolished in 1801)
- Wooden figure of Christ at rest (end of the 17th century)
- Double Madonna (around 1700)
