Spring-fed drinking fountain at the "Himmelstreppe" on Hennesee
Am Stausee
59872 Meschede
The spring water drinking fountain at the Himmelstreppe is located right on Hennen Boulevard and is a popular stop for hikers, cyclists, and day-trippers. Before climbing the 333 steps of the Himmelstreppe up to the Hennetal Dam, visitors can fill their water bottles for free here or refresh themselves with fresh spring water.
The water comes from a natural spring that was discovered during construction of the Hennetalsperre in the 1950s. The spring provides pleasantly cool water year-round, with a temperature of about 10 to 12 degrees Celsius. The fountain was jointly built in 2016 by Hochsauerlandwasser GmbH and the Ruhrverband and uniquely connects the history of the dam with sustainable drinking water supply.
The drinking fountain is in operation around the clock from April through October and offers the perfect refreshment for anyone exploring Lake Hennesee and the Himmelstreppe (Stairway to Heaven).
Open 24 hours a day from April through October.
