On the ridge of the Rothaar Mountains, at a crossroads and surrounded by tall fir trees, stands the nearly four-meter-tall steel sculpture “Kein leichtes Spiel” by Ansgar Nierhoff. Weighing approximately 64 metric tons, the artwork consists of several gates and latches that were cut out of a single steel structure and open in different directions.
Like several other works along the WaldSkulpturenWeg, the sculpture addresses the historical separation of regions by territorial, linguistic, cultural, and religious boundaries. These conflicts date back to the late Middle Ages and the Reformation. In this tranquil setting, the artwork invites visitors to reflect on the commonalities between the formerly divided regions and on the overcoming of boundaries.
