The Ruhr springs from the Ruhrkopf, a 696-metre-high mountain, in a small wooded area that is a nature reserve. Below the source, there is a memorial stone and a traffic circle that invites visitors to take a short break. The Ruhr is 219 kilometers long from its source in Winterberg to its mouth in Duisburg. Major trails such as the RuhrtalRadweg and Rothaarsteig pass by the Ruhrquelle.
The area around the Ruhrquelle offers a picturesque natural backdrop with forests, meadows and typical low mountain landscape. Many visitors enjoy going on hikes from here and experiencing the beauty of nature.
The
Ruhrquellenhütte is just a few minutes' walk from the spring. There you can take a break in a cozy atmosphere, go skiing or test the mountain carts.
