A lucky coincidence created the Bad Waldliesborn spa
The unexpected find: who would have thought that the search for coal would lead to the discovery of a real treasure? During drilling in Suderlage at the beginning of the 20th century, it was not black coal, which was essential as fuel and for industry, that was discovered, but a hot brine spring. This happy coincidence laid the foundation for today's Bad Waldliesborn spa.

The rope wheel - a piece of mining history in Lippstadt
The rope wheel erected in Bad Waldliesborn's spa gardens is a special reminder of this time. It is a reminder that Lippstadt was once closely associated with mining. The pulley comes from the old Waltrop colliery and once transported the pit cage.

From brine spring to spa
The discovered brine spring was so rich in minerals that it was ideal for spa treatments. The Hamburg businessman Wilhelm Eichholz recognized the potential and built the spa in 1904. This is how a popular spa resort was created by chance.
