The founding of the Brilon-Willingen Ski Club in 1910 marked the start of a long winter sports era in Brilon. Already in the founding year, toboggan runs, ice rinks and ski slopes were built for guests. A major sporting event took place in Brilon in 1958 with the West German Ski Championships.
The ski jumps on the Helle
The first ski jump with a maximum jumping distance of 24 meters was built here in 1930. Due to the wooden construction, which was not weatherproof, the ski jump fell into disrepair after just a few years. The ski jump built at the same location in the 1950s also only proved its worth for a decade. In 1965, the natural ski jump, which is still clearly recognizable today, was built, on which distances of up to 46 m have already been achieved.
The short detour via the steps next to the ski jump is a little steep, but it takes you right past the old judges' tower, past the take-off table and right up to the take-off bar.
