The complex consists of a main castle and an outer castle, which suggests that these are two hill forts of different ages. The rampart castle complex served as a refuge for the population from the surrounding settlements in the event of enemy attacks. Remains of a medieval church, which is said to have been one of the first churches in the Brilon area, have been preserved within the ramparts. Further information can be found on the information boards on site.

A day's walk to go to church?
Can you imagine that the first churches in the Brilon area at that time were so far apart that the faithful sometimes even had to walk a whole day to get to mass?
