With the industrial expansion of mining in Ramsbeck from the middle of the 19th century, many Protestant miners came to the region from the Harz Mountains, Thuringia and Saxony. The first families arrived in the Andreasberg colony in 1854. From 1855, the preacher August Disselhoff laid the foundations for the first Protestant congregation in the Ramsbeck area with a great deal of personal commitment.
After years of provisional solutions, the foundation stone for today's church was laid in 1878. The neo-Gothic building, designed by Wilhelm Moelle, was consecrated in 1879 and is one of the oldest Protestant churches in Hochsauerland. It has been a listed building since 1978 and was extensively renovated in 1995. Since then, it has borne the name "Petruskirche".
The church is a symbol of cohesion, faith and new beginnings - at that time for immigrant miners' families, later also for displaced persons after 1945. Today, as a "church of lights", it invites people to rest, reflect and have a spiritual experience.
