The ridge of the Ebbegebirge opens up from this rest area like a spider's web. You are in a large-scale nature reserve of European importance (in accordance with the European Union's Flora and Fauna Habitats Directive). The moors, which often lie on both sides of the paths, are unique in their special character as hillside and spring moors. You can recognize these moors by the bog birch trees growing there. The moors are home to the last raised bog fritillary butterflies in North Rhine-Westphalia and other protected plants such as the marsh fritillary.
The Nordhelle at 663 m above sea level, the highest elevation in the Ebbegebirge, can be reached in just a few minutes. In addition to the Robert Kolb Tower of the Sauerland Mountain Association (SGV), the broadcasting towers of Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) are also located here.
