Neuburg Castle was built in 1732 by Chief Forester Karl Johann Philipp Löner von Laurenburg. It served as a hunting lodge for Landgrave Ludwig VIII until 1768. It then became the seat of the forestry administration and later the district court and district administration office of the district of Battenberg. The building served as a forestry office and district court until 1967 and 1970 respectively.
The Neuburg has been owned by the town of Battenberg since 1971 and has been the seat of the town council ever since.
