The church bears the name of its patron saint, St. Pankratius. It was built at the beginning of the 13th century according to the basic pattern of the stepped churches in Upland with a rectangular nave and square choir. The north portal and the north choir window are Gothic (around 1300). The south wall was renewed in 1586. The church received its baroque interior in 1672 and a new tower with a pyramid roof was erected in 1851. In March 1996, after the roofing of the church tower was renewed, a new spire decoration was added to the church spire.

A crowned man's head can be seen on the outside of the northern choir wall. To this day, it has not been possible to clarify the meaning of this head depiction.

The nave is a simple hall. The highlight of the Baroque interior is the altarpiece by Waldeck Baroque artist Josias Wolrat Brützel. The signature "Meister Josias Wolrat Brützel Anno 1692" can still be read on the back. The altarpiece shows an impressive depiction of the Last Judgement. Two twisted columns frame the round-arched altarpiece on the side. The baptismal font is made of sandstone. It bears the Waldeck star in the mirror field. Like the stalls, it dates from the 17th century. The organ was installed around 1850/1851.
