Built in 1711 by the Cistercian nuns of Welver Convent, the building served as a bakery and brewery until 1809. As early as 1806, at the suggestion of Miss von Keil, the convent decided to turn the upper rooms of the large bakery and brewery into a school. The conversion costs amounted to 700 thalers. The building served as a school for many generations until 1965. From 1965 to 1983, classrooms were set up for the youth home of the Catholic youth. It has been open to the public again since October 19, 1986, where the local history collection of the Working Group for History and Local History of Welver Heimatverein e.V. is now on display and can be viewed.
The Heimathaus opens its doors to visitors on the first Sunday of every month from 14:00 to 18:00.
Special guided tours for groups are possible at any time by prior arrangement.
