Welcome to the "Stilleking" nature reserve!
The "Stilleking" is a former military training area. During its military use, which lasted from the 1930s to 1994, nutrient-poor habitats of an old cultivated landscape were preserved here. Even today, the "Stilleking" is characterized by extensive rough pastures and dwarf shrub heaths. Endangered bird species such as the ground-nesting skylark and meadow pipit live here. Rare plants such as broad-leaved thyme and dyer's broom can also still be found here.
Heck cattle, a robust breed similar to the extinct aurochs, have taken over the maintenance of the semi-open pasture landscape.
The "Stilleking" nature reserve is accessible via a circular hiking trail, the so-called "Ochsentour", which is marked with information boards. At the edge of the ox tour, a detour to the imposing lime tree of the former feudal court "Stilleking" is tempting.
