The trail starts opposite Burg Altena and leads to a circular route of the Altena Heights. The first section of the nature trail provides information about Burg Altena, the German Youth Hostel Association, which originated in Altena, and the development of the town with its wire and metal industry.
The further you get into the forest, the more the theme trail revolves around it. Information boards along the way introduce the inhabitants of the forest and, with a bit of luck, you may even see one or two of them in real life.
A forest tepee and a legendary fountain lie along the way. The Steinsbörnchen, whose story is probably familiar to some from the adventure elevator to Burg Altena, seems almost forgotten.
The circular trail ends in the green classroom, which, in addition to display boards and models on flora, fauna, climate and environmental protection, also offers seating with a beautiful view over hilly Altena. This place also owes its name Hexentanzplatz to the wooden figure in the middle.
