The expansion of this section of road is dated to 1788 in the specialist literature. As part of a supra-regional transport axis, the road played an important role in the road-based transportation of goods and people as well as in trade relations between different regions.

The exceptionally well-preserved historic roadbed is particularly noteworthy. The so-called pack layer - a load-bearing stone layer under the road surface - has been preserved almost undisturbed over a long stretch. This condition is rare and gives the section of road great documentary significance.

Due to its degree of preservation and its significance for the history of road construction and transportation, the historic road between Bracht and Grünewald has been designated a technical monument. It thus offers a vivid insight into early engineering achievements at the end of the 18th century.
