The Stiftspastorat as a mirror of the town's architectural development
The Stiftspastorat in Stiftstraße in Lippstadt is much more than just a former rectory. Its history goes back centuries and reflects the architectural development of the town. Originally, the building served as the residence of the collegiate preacher. He was obliged to maintain the building at his own expense. The clear separation into a residential and a commercial part was typical for buildings of this time. The service part, which is easily recognizable by its large Deelentor gate and the house-high Deele, was used for storage and craft activities.

Architecturally interesting features in the building of the Stiftspastorat
A special feature of the Stiftspastorat is its eaves. While other buildings of the time had their gables facing the street, the eaves of the Stiftspastorat faced the street. This unusual design allowed direct access to the upper floors, which was very practical for the time. A significant conversion took place in 1800. The original appearance changed fundamentally. The old door was replaced by an elegant, double-leaf door and a false ceiling in the hallway created additional living space. Particularly noteworthy is the new staircase with banisters in the classical style, which lent the building a new elegance. The stylish stucco ceiling on the upper floors bears witness to the high standards of living comfort at the time.

The Stiftspastorat
It was the rectory of the parish of St. Marien and thus helped shape the development of the town. To the right of the main house was another building, which was put together from parts of a former gatehouse of Cappel Abbey. This type of construction, in which existing materials were reused, was common in half-timbered construction and served to save costs. The collegiate pastorate was last renovated in 1995 and today presents itself as an impressive testimony to Lippstadt's architectural history.
