Following the construction in 1997 of the 2.5-kilometer-long, illuminated roller-ski track—which provides biathletes and skiers with optimal training conditions in both summer and winter—a biathlon facility with 15 shooting ranges for small-bore rifles was built in 2001. To enable the use of this shooting range for competitions as well, ten additional target systems and a prefabricated service building from Fingerhaus were added in 2007.
The service building at the EWF Biathlon Arena is used for team meetings and as a storage area, and features restrooms and locker rooms. Of particular note are the panoramic windows, through which judges can oversee large sections of the biathlon course.
To ensure optimal training and competition conditions even in winter, additional investments were made in 2009 in a snowmaking pond and the snowmaking system, enabling the entire course to be covered with artificial snow even at sub-zero temperatures.
Biathlon Shooting for Groups
Have you always wanted to aim at the 5 round targets with a small-bore rifle, just like a biathlete? At the shooting range of the EWF Biathlon Arena, you can—both prone and standing. After a brief introduction to using a small-bore rifle, groups can test their marksmanship on the biathlon flip targets 50 meters away. For information and prices, contact the Willingen Ski Club.
If that’s not enough for you, you can also try roller skiing. Nordic skating is the name of this new sport, which combines elements of inline skating and cross-country skiing. The advantage of this sport is that it’s not dependent on weather or terrain. A Nordic skating introductory course is available for groups of 10 or more and includes all necessary equipment, a briefing, and shooting with a biathlon rifle.

Directions
From the B 251, take the Stryck exit between Willingen and Usseln, then turn left onto the narrow paved road and drive uphill. At the first and second intersections, turn left onto the paved road each time, then continue straight ahead on the gravel road for about 600 meters until you reach the gate. Before the gate, turn left behind the shooting range and head down to the parking lot. Please do not drive onto the scooter track!
