In 1843, there were calls for a separate municipality. However, the Prussian officials took their time with the decision. The pastor of the "Provincial Lunatic Asylum" was to take care of the Protestant population. For almost two decades, the people of Marsberg demanded their own parish rights; and in 1862, the "erection certificate" was finally issued.
Built in 1864, the church stands on a hill "outside the gate". The stained glass windows in the chancel are particularly noteworthy. Although the church is built in the neo-Romanesque style, the pictures follow the Gothic tradition.
The central picture in the chancel shows Christ emerging from his tomb. He is framed by two pelicans: one is tearing open its own breast to feed its young; the other is flying towards the sun. These windows thus form a thematic unity: Christ, who died for us, rose again and ascended to heaven.
