History of the parish church
The St. Engelbertus church in Medelon was consecrated in 1911.
It is the second church in the village. Many years ago, there was already a St. Engelbertus church elsewhere, the history of which dates back to the 17th century. A replica can be found on the Orke near the children's playground.
Our current St. Engelbert church was built in 1910 in the neo-Gothic style.
The high altar depicts the Nativity on the left and the Entombment of Christ on the right in relief, with the four symbols of the Evangelists below. In the middle of the altar, in an exposition niche, is a standing cross under which a pelican appears as a symbol of the suffering Christ.
The choir windows depict the Sacred Heart in the middle. The left window shows the local patron saint Wendelin, the right one the parish patron saint Engelbert. The church also has a St. Wendelin reliquary in a modern version.
Services of the Catholic parish of Medelon are regularly celebrated in the church.
