Metzgeramtshaus Lippstadt: A unique piece of Lippstadt's guild history
Over 500 years of documented guild and tradition in the Lippstadt butcher's office
The so-called Metzgeramtshaus on Poststraße in Lippstadt is the oldest guild building in Germany. The descendants of the original 8 butcher families have been meeting here for over 500 years. The oldest written statutes of the guild, the so-called Nottuln, date back to 1574. The year on the archway refers to this, not the year of construction as is usually the case.
A look inside the office
The historic half-timbered house with its characteristic arched passageway once housed the butchers' stables and slaughterhouses. On the upper floor, the guild met in the ornately panelled office room.
A living piece of heritage
The tradition of the butchers' guild is still upheld today. The descendants of the original members meet regularly in the Amtshaus, keeping the memory of their ancestors alive. Discover the Metzgeramtshaus in Lippstadt and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of the butchers' guild.
