On the first stage from Meinerzhagen to Attendorn, the Sauerland-Höhenflug leads through the impressive landscape of the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park. One highlight is the approximately 70-metre-long wooden footbridge that crosses one of the hillside spring moors in the almost 1,000-hectare nature reserve Auf'm Ebbe, which is particularly worthy of protection.
The footbridge leads through the Wilde Wiese moor, which has been a nature reserve since 1930. The wooden structure makes it possible to cross the moor on dry feet and get a direct view of the wet site with typical vegetation such as moor grass and Carpathian birch. This allows you to experience the sensitive moorland landscape without disturbing it.
If you don't want to hike the Knüppeldamm as part of the Höhenflug stage, you can alternatively start at the Nordhelle hiking parking lot. From there, various routes - including short walks - lead to this special natural spot.
