In the past, carters and pilgrims used to camp here - today, the "Bettelmannsbuche" nature park refuge offers shelter and a place to rest to anyone out and about in nature.
The rest area near Feudigen is a place steeped in history. The old and mighty tree (it was around 250 years old, an impressive 30 m high with a mighty crown circumference of 63 m and a trunk circumference of almost 4 m) is still on everyone's lips today, even though it fell victim to a storm in 1976. A shelter was erected on the site in memory of the tree. Part of the trunk is still preserved today and forms the table in the shelter.
The Rothaarsteig trail "Ilsetalpfad" and the SGV hiking trail "Feudingen-Ilsequelle" (marked triangle) pass the rest area and invite you to take a break and relax. The Lahnwanderweg hiking trail also runs nearby.
