Benediktusbogen Obermarsberg
Am Stift 9
34431 Marsberg
The Benedictine Arch forms the entrance to the cemetery and to the church and former monastery district. The upper part of the Benedictus Arch refers to the historical significance of this place and the importance of the monastery as it saw itself. The globe forms the top. Below it is a reference to the visit of Leo III, who is said to have been here with Charlemagne in 799 and consecrated the church, the origins of which go back to Charlemagne. The founder of the Benedictine order, St. Benedict, to whom the monastery was dedicated, can be seen in the shell.
