About the artist ANTEK
In his works, Antek searches for fronts, resistance and tension. For the most part, figurative elements can be discerned - heads - mostly male - often recognizable as self-portraits. But not like a mirror image - rather to be understood as a mental state. The Gdansk artist, born in 62, places people at the center of his work in his expressive figurative paintings. He thematizes personal experiences in the context of his own development, as well as the confrontation with sexual and moral issues. Antek's works are the result of an examination of the material and his immediate surroundings. In addition to the classic utensils of an artist, he uses everyday materials such as coffee powder, sand, flour or spices. However, the painterly quality is always at the forefront of his work, the mediation of which forms the focus of his work as a lecturer in the "Free Painting" department.Antek presented his first exhibition in Gdansk in 1979, which resulted in a scholarship from the Gdansk University of Applied Sciences. Antek renounced this and moved to Germany in the same year, creating numerous works during his time in Germany, which were presented in just as many exhibitions. His works sought an audience - and so the logical step was to open the "Atelier Antek" in Altena in 2006. Here, Antek creates a place of communication and a forum for artists.
