The Ahausen Reservoir is located downstream from Attendorn in the Bigge Valley. It was constructed in 1938 to regulate the Bigge River and, since the Bigge Dam began operating, has also served as a balancing reservoir for the dam’s power plant. The reservoir is impounded by an earthen dam and a weir structure, with a power plant located between them. The weir features two floodgates and two fixed weir sections.
