From the Weimar Republic and National Socialism, through the construction of the GDR to reunification, Jenny Erpenbeck illuminates and links the fates of individual people in eleven chapters: in their respective eras, they seek a home on this property on Scharmützelsee in Brandenburg.
The characters immerse the viewer in the contradictions of their time and their lives. Each story is an individual fate, each person with their own private perspectives on the world, shaped and marked by the respective social constraints. During all this time, a gardener watches over the property and goes about his work.
There will be a free introduction to the play by Linda Keil for this event. Begins at 6.15 pm in the auditorium.
