The Altena Schützenfest is an event steeped in tradition with roots dating back to 1429. It takes place every three years on Corpus Christi, provided there are no external influences to the contrary, and extends over four festive days.
The anticipation begins months in advance in the companies and individual platoons with numerous preparatory events. A central part of this is the so-called wreath tying, where the festive decorations are created together and the community is cultivated.
Over the course of its long history, the Schützenfest has been carefully developed and adapted to the times without losing its traditional character. Many rites and customs have been preserved over the centuries and still characterize the festival today.
Today's Schützenfest combines this evolved tradition with living customs and offers a varied program for participants and guests. The exact schedule for the 2026 Schützenfest can be found at https://fwg-altena.info/schuetzenfest-2026
