Poetry slam is a popular contemporary stage format in the broad field between poetry, comedy, cabaret and prose - eloquent, diverse and interactive: rousing stage literature, captivating performances, moving texts, sometimes funny, sometimes serious, sometimes critical. Once an insider tip, the literary performances in this country have developed into one of the largest scenes in the world - and not only that: since 2016, the modern poetry competitions have been officially recognized as intangible UNESCO cultural heritage. The rules are as simple as they are efficient: self-written texts, a fixed time limit and you decide who gets to take home the glory and honor after the show. It's your evening and you won't forget it!
Presenter Jan Schmidt is a slam poet, phenomenon and jumping jack. With his appearances at the NRW slam finals and the German-language championships, the Bochum native is one of the most exciting poets in the country and opens up unexpected possibilities in the mix of performance, text and audience.
