As early as the beginning of the 20th century, committed Siegerland local and nature conservationists campaigned for the "Dornbruch" to be placed under protection. They wanted to prevent moors, meadows and juniper heaths from being afforested with spruce trees. Their efforts were successful: today, the 100-hectare Dollenbruch is an important nature reserve and part of a Europe-wide network of protected areas. On this leisurely hike, you will follow in the footsteps of the people who worked with great idealism to protect the area and hear stories about their pioneering nature conservation work. How did the juniper heaths come about and what role do they play today? What is the special significance of this remote border area? Answers to these and other questions can be found on the nature park tour with Carola Becker on June 26, 2026.
