Traditional popular event

On May 1, the members of the Usseln Boys' Club erect a maypole in the center of the village. This traditional celebration has been an integral part of the club's program for years and is very popular with the lads and visitors alike. The maypole is gradually lifted by the members using long "holding forks".

This is done in several individual stages and is an energy-sapping task. Before this, however, the many carved wooden coats of arms of the individual Usseln clubs are attached to the trunk of the tree with their corresponding shield holders. A beautiful and at the same time representative ornament. A specially wrapped wreath of fir branches is also attached to the top of the tree trunk with the help of chains.

In the meantime, the numerous visitors and guests are well catered for: sausages and steaks against hunger as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks provide for the physical well-being. For the past 2 years, there has also been a waffle stand run by the friends of the Usseln boys. Here you can enjoy a cup of coffee and one of the delicious waffles. The festival is accompanied by powerful brass band music and the infamous wood-sawing competition.
