A play about the shared destiny of a tree and a squirrel
"It's a miracle, this life!", the venerable Castanea von Kastanien is convinced. At 150 years old, she has plenty of experience and foresight, because Castanea is a chestnut tree that towers high above a green space in Cologne. The young squirrel Knabberix courts the aristocratic - somewhat conceited, but always amiable - plant for a friendship that will soon prove to be of vital importance. The always hungry creature learns from the plant how to better organize his supplies and overcome his fear of heights when climbing. In return, the nimble rodent waters the grove with precious water from a neighboring pond in times of drought and ensures chestnut offspring by spreading tree fruit on the ground.
"In this way, the young audience is sensitized to the preservation of nature and the value of friendships in the here and now." (Thomas Dahl "Choices" July 2025)
