Until the 19th century, markets were held within the walls of the "town on the hill". The historical markets of the modern era have successfully continued this tradition.
With over 100 stands, stalls, activities and attractions, the medieval hustle and bustle is brought to life for two days. The market stretches from the Nikolaikirche up Eresburgstraße to the only surviving pillory in Westfalen. Just as it was customary more than 700 years ago. Craftsmen, traders, musicians, jugglers, fortune-tellers and comedians, the camp life of the historical marksmen, culinary delights, delicacies and fine drinks, agriculture and animal husbandry as well as a tent city with the camp life of the Middle Ages.
