The faraway so close.
How Lippstadt got to know the wide world
A joint exhibition by the city archive and the city museum
Since Europeans discovered new countries, even entire continents, the 'enlarged' world has become increasingly diverse and interesting, but also more confusing. The exhibition shows how people in Lippstadt dealt with this, the ways and means by which they came into contact with previously unknown regions, the different nature, the people and their culture. How did people try to organize the overabundance of new information?
The exhibition is dedicated to the historical changes in dealing with the Other. It explores the local traces up to the present day and the new tightrope walks to be explored.
The exhibition will be accompanied by several lectures on various individual topics. The supporting program will take place partly in the synagogue's cultural space and in the council chamber.
