Tragicomedy - Louise Violet, a teacher from Paris, goes to the countryside, opens a school and celebrates education as a historical achievement.
France, end of the 19th century. The Parisian teacher is supposed to open a school in the provinces so that children from farming families can also learn to read and write. But life in the country is different. The children are needed as harvest workers. Louise Violet's educational ideals are met with incomprehension. But although none of the village children show up in the classroom at first, she remains steadfast. This impresses Mayor Joseph, who admires the mysterious outsider for more than just her intelligence. But there is a tragic secret in Louise's past that will soon come to light and call her fight for educational justice into question.
