Cinema in the culture barn: Karla

In 1962, the balance of power not only between men and women, but also between adults and children still seemed to be set in stone. Children are children and adults are the ones who are listened to. Their words carry weight, while children are lucky if they are heard at all as soon as they open their mouths. But Karla (Elise Krieps) is obviously very different. The twelve-year-old wants to hold her father accountable because her safety was no longer guaranteed due to his negligence. She makes serious accusations, which eventually end up in court. Judge Lamy (Rainer Bock) recognizes the precarious situation and turns out to be a rock in the surf for Karla during the trial (Germany 2025, Drama, 104 minutes, FSK 12).
