Venice in winter - a realm of shadows, fog and whispering canals. In this surreal setting, a destiny begins that tears down the boundaries between reality and magic. The brothers Prosper and Bo desperately flee Hamburg, pursued by an aunt who wants to separate them at all costs. Strangers in their mother's city, without money and without protection, they stumble through the alleyways - until a gang of street kids catches them. Hidden in the ruins of an abandoned movie theater, the gang lives off petty theft and the hope of tomorrow. Their leader: the mysterious boy who everyone calls "Lord of the Thieves". He seems imperturbable, almost unapproachable - and yet he carries a secret heavy enough to shake the whole town.
When he is given the task of stealing an inconspicuous wooden grand piano, no one suspects
that this theft is the key to a power more dangerous than any pursuit: an ancient carousel that bends time itself - aging or rejuvenating people. As the children become entangled in the dark game of the enigmatic
client Conte, it becomes clear that only courage, loyalty and the will to stand up for one
another can save them when Venice reveals its darkest secrets.
