In the evening, when darkness falls over the city center, night watchman Ewald takes participants on his medieval tour of the city's alleyways. Equipped with halberd, horn and lantern, city guide Dieter Boneberger slips into the role of the night watchman. With a melodious voice and in the expressions common in the Middle Ages, he reports on the important tasks of his profession. During his tour, he reveals local stories, such as the one about the murder in the town monastery after a drinking spree, and introduces participants to the dangers that lurked in the night at that time.
Night watchman Ewald welcomes his interested companions at Lippstadt Town Hall. From there, he walks to the Bürgerbrunnen, past St. Mary's Church into the Helle Halle and to the Metzgeramtshaus. He stops again and again to pass on his night watchman knowledge and, of course, to announce the time punctually with the well-known call "Hört Ihr Leut' und lasst Euch sagen...".
The rest of the route through nocturnal Lippstadt leads through I. Pfad and Kahlenstraße to Nikolaikirche, through Ignaz-Knievelweg and Nicolaiweg to St. Annen-Rosengarten and on to Soeststraße. Walkers return to the town hall via Levi and Zurhelle-Platz.
The tour is characterized by its entertaining nature and the rugged charm of the Middle Ages. You can laugh and be amazed and learn to fear in many a dark corner.
