Exchange at eye level, new approaches and plenty of practical relevance: at this year's Tourism Barcamp Sauerland on Tuesday, May 26, the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences in Meschede once again became an ideas workshop for the industry. Around 40 students, trainees, junior staff and young professionals took the opportunity to discuss current developments and jointly shed light on future topics in tourism.

Florian Breide from Y Social Media in Meschede kicked off the event. In his keynote speech, he showed how social networks are currently changing, what role artificial intelligence plays in content creation and why authenticity is more important than ever for destinations. He also discussed new platform trends, changing algorithms and the challenge of gaining attention in an increasingly fragmented media landscape.

Afterwards, the participants themselves set the agenda for the session rounds - tailored to their own interests. Topics discussed included AI applications in everyday tourism, sustainable product development, employer attractiveness, content strategies and cooperation within the region. The open format enabled intensive discussions, spontaneous impulses and practical solutions.

"The Barcamp is deliberately not a frontal lecture, but rather thrives on participation," emphasizes Rouven Soyka, press spokesman for Sauerland Tourism. "Ideas are generated here from the industry for the industry: that's exactly what adds value." The networking idea was also a priority for many participants. "It is particularly important for young professionals to make contacts and look beyond their own company," said Nele Hesse from the organization team. "The Barcamp creates the ideal setting for this."

The Sauerland Tourism Barcamp was once again jointly organized by Sauerland Tourism, the IHK Arnsberg Hellweg-Sauerland, the IHK Siegen, the SIHK zu Hagen and the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences. The format was once again supported by the Veltins brewery, which contributed to the open and communicative atmosphere with drinks.

The conclusion of the day: young tourism professionals in the Sauerland region are well networked, open to new technologies and motivated to actively shape the future of the industry.
