The Papen sculpture workshop in Giershagen was one of the most creative workshops of the Baroque period. Heinrich Papen and his son Christophel left behind an extensive collection of art monuments in more than 50 places in the Sauerland, East Westphalia and North Hesse. There is a corresponding monument in the center of the village. Giershagen also looks back on an important mining history, which is kept alive with the theme trail "Bergbauspuren" and in associations and events.
The parish church of Fabian and Sebastian is located in the village center, the Kluskapelle with works from the Papen workshop is located outside the village in the cemetery.
The village, which is located in the Diemelsee Nature Park, has several other beautiful hiking trails in addition to the "Mining Trails", such as the Bionik-Pfad with interactive stations, the Klusweg near the Marienkapelle, the supra-regional Sauerland-Waldroute and the Pilgrims' Trail, as well as the Diemelradweg.
