In 1843, there was a call for a municipality of its own. But the Prussian officials took their time with the decision. The pastor of the "Provinzial-Irrenanstalt" should take care of the Lutheran population. For almost two decades the people of Marsberg demanded their own parish rights; and in 1862 the "Erection Certificate" was finally issued.
Built in 1864, the church stands on a hill "in front of the gate". The stained glass windows in the chancel are particularly remarkable. Although the church is built in neo-Romanesque style, the paintings follow Gothic tradition.
The central picture in the chancel shows Christ rising from his tomb. He is framed by two pelicans: one is tearing open its own breast to feed its young; the other is flying toward the sun. Thus, these windows form a thematic unity: Christ who died for us, rose from the dead, and ascended to heaven.
