Guests cycle from one natural beauty to the next on this easy circular tour. Charming contrasts provide new impressions time and again. From the cycle point at the train station, the route leads through the green Ruhrtal to the blue Hillebachsee. In the Eschenberg ski area, the lifts are closed for the cycling season - perfect for taking a closer look at the facilities.

The rather steep ride up to the Hillebachsee in Niedersfeld is well worth it: surrounded by meadow slopes, the mountain lake glistens in the sun. Cyclists get off their bikes and watch the surfers, wakeboarders and water skiers - it almost feels like Florida. A little tip: pack your swimsuit in your bike basket! Kids love a paddling break.

Refreshed, the tour leads through the lush green meadows of the Hillebach valley via Hildfeld and Grönebach past the source of the Ruhr. Here it is worth taking a short detour to the pile dwellings with interesting information about nature. On the last few meters back to Winerberg, the Ruhrkopf and Dumel rise proudly above the landscape.

Information

Directions

We start at the Radpoint at the train station and ride uphill towards the traffic circle. At the traffic circle, we ride 200 m to the right along the B 480, cross the road (take care!) and ride left down into the valley. The route now follows a dirt road for about 2 km into the Ruhrtal. We continue to follow the RuhrtalRadweg along the left-hand side of the valley. It leads past the site of the old Ruhr mill and the "Eschenberg" ski area to Niedersfeld. At the entrance to the town, cross the B 480 to the right and immediately turn left again into the road "Am Ruhrgrund". After 200 m, turn right into "Rimbergweg", which climbs steeply up to the Hillesee lake. We cross the dam to the Christopherushütte and continue straight ahead, always slightly uphill, over the railroad embankment of the former Steinhelle - Medebach narrow-gauge railroad to the entrance to Hildfeld. Cross the Grönebach - Niedersfeld road and turn left into "Hildfelder Straße". After 200 m, the cycle path turns right into the street "Zur Schweimecke". Cycle past the Heidehotel and continue straight ahead into the valley of the Hillebach. After 2 km, turn right twice and cycle into the village of Grönebach. There we pass the village fountain and keep right towards Ruipes-Ropes-Hütte and Entenwiese. We follow the G1 for a while and then turn left, cross the country road and turn left into the Ruhrquelle parking lot. Passing the source of the Ruhr, we then head back to Winterberg via the "Ruhrkopf" and the "Dumel".
