Sauerland. At 658 m high, the Wilzenberg is one of the most striking mountains in the Sauerland and is not only a place of pilgrimage between Grafschaft and Winkhausen but also a pagan place of worship with visible ramparts. From the Wilzenberg Tower, visitors are treated to a spectacular view over the Schmallenberg Sauerland.
Legend has it that a rampart fortress and a refuge fortress once stood on this mountain in the early Middle Ages. The ring of ramparts still visible today near the observation tower and the weapons found in 1950 (iron swords and spearheads) support this theory.
