The monument was dedicated on July 9, 1911, one week before the monument in Vellinghausen. This was an attempt to link the Battle of Vellinghausen more closely to the town of Dinker, which was also on the front line of the battle.
The lower plaque lists the names of 16 fallen soldiers from Dinker who died in the wars of 1864, 1866, and 1870/71—
Drawing on the diary of a contemporary—which, unfortunately, survives only in fragments—Professor Dr. Vogeler of Soest reports for the Soest Historical Society: In Dinker, around the Sängerhof, the trees and houses were so riddled with bullets that the writer wonders how the people there managed to survive. Even three weeks after the battle, not all the bodies had been found and buried. The stench must have been terrible. The pigs roaming about fed on the corpses and subsequently died from a disease caused by this.
