Waldeck Castle is an 11th-century fortress complex located 120 meters above Lake Eder. From here, visitors can enjoy the unique landscape of the Waldeck region. Once the ancestral seat of the Counts of Waldeck, the fortress also served as a barracks. In 1734, it became the state prison; later, it housed the state archives and the forestry office, and from 1906 onward, it was used as a hotel. The exhibition “Behind Lock and Key” in the castle’s vaulted cellars offers visitors a vivid glimpse into the events that have taken place at this historic site. A particularly beautiful spot to visit is the observation deck, which offers a stunning panoramic view of Lake Eder.
The observation deck is open regularly until early evening. Admission is free.

There is a fee for parking cars in this lot. You can purchase a daily parking ticket (cash). The parking ticket is then valid at all other paid parking locations in the municipality of Edertal and the town of Waldeck! Electric vehicle charging stations available. Public Transportation Nearest bus stop(s): Waldeck Marktplatz Route(s): 510, 510.1, 515, AST 581.4, AST 583.2, AST 585.1, AST 585.3 NVV Service Hotline: 0800-939-0800 All connections, including AST taxi connections, can be viewed in detail via the NVV schedule information service—www.nvv.de/fahrplanauskunft Tip for smartphone users: Download the “NVV Mobil” app from your app store before your trip! In general, you should also factor the “AST Taxi” (shared-ride taxi) into your planning. With the shared-ride taxis (AST), the NVV ensures mobility on routes that aren’t in such high demand. Instead of taking the bus, you’ll travel here in regular taxis or rental cars. ASTs also have fixed schedules—you simply need to call and request a ride (usually) at least 30 minutes before departure. Also keep in mind that ASTs only operate when no regular scheduled buses are running on the same route. Shared Taxi Dispatch Center: +49 (0) 5631-5062088
