At the Volmequelle, the Volme has its source at around 465 meters above sea level. A quiet recreation area with plenty of seating has been created around the spring, allowing visitors to take a relaxing break in a natural setting. The spring is therefore a popular place to pause for a moment - as well as a practical orientation point for hikers.
From here, the Volme covers a distance of 48 kilometers and finally flows into the Ruhr in the Vorhalle district of Hagen. Its catchment area covers around 412 square kilometers and includes several scenic dams, including the Jubach, Glör, Ennepe, Hasper and Heilenbecker dams.
On its way through the Volme Valley, the Volme connects several municipalities in the Oben an der Volme region. In addition to Meinerzhagen, it also flows through Kierspe, Halver (Oberbrügge district) and Schalksmühle. The Volmequelle therefore not only stands for the beginning of a river, but also for the scenic and regional ties of the southern Sauerland.
