The 300-year-old Spieker is a landmark for the Ebbe community. The half-timbered building was used to store the goods that had to be delivered to the church. Its structural origins probably date back to the 17th century. The actual main building was built in its current form around 1800.

The Spieker is one of the oldest buildings in the municipality of Herscheid. The building wing consists of a quarry stone house from the 15th/16th century and a much younger half-timbered house with an attached stable. In early times, the building was used to store the natural goods that had to be delivered to the church.

The Spieker over the centuries:

  • Burnt down to the quarry stone wall in the village fire of 1686.
  • 1759 Churchyard estate owned by Peter Pollmann.
  • 1794 the Alberts family acquires half of the Spieker estate
  • 1820 The present half-timbered building with stables is built on the old foundations.
  • 1822 Joh. Died. Alberts acquires the second part of the Spieker estate.
  • Until 1884 inn, farm and carriage business.
  • Before the Second World War, there is a wool and linen store in the Spieker.
  • In 1984, the building is listed as a historical monument.
  • 2005 the Spieker becomes the property of the municipality of Herscheid.
  • 2006 Next to the library and the wedding room, the Heimatstube is located in the Spieker.
  • 2009 The Heimatstube is officially opened after renovation work.

In the lovingly furnished rooms of the Spieker there are many exhibits from the old days. Household appliances, furnishings, tools, pictures and much more invite you on a journey into the past.
