The Catholic parish church of St. George in Bad Fredeburg was built in 1932 according to plans by Karl Wibbe. It was erected on the site of a previous church dating from 1827, which was replaced for structural reasons. Some of the materials were reused.
The building is a three-nave hall church with a striking, double-gabled spire—not originally planned, but a spontaneous solution that has come to define its modern appearance.
The interior is characterized by clean lines and a minimalist color scheme. A renovation in the early 2000s deliberately created a sense of tranquility and space for works of art, particularly those from the postmodern period of the 1980s.
Of particular note is the triptych by Nikolaus Bette, supported by a seven-meter-high tree of life. It depicts scenes from the Book of Revelation featuring people of various religions. His stained-glass windows with biblical motifs and the liturgical elements made of slate and sandstone also date from this period.
