Before construction of the actual dam began, a 1:40 scale model was built at the Bericher Hütte. The various mechanisms for releasing water were tested on this model. For this purpose, water was drawn from the old millrace of the former Bericher Hütte. Even today, the fairly well-preserved model of the dam emerges when the water level is low.
